6 tips for designing a corporate identity

A good corporate identity is crucial to your brand. After all, it ensures that you are instantly recognizable to customers and it distinguishes you from competitors. In addition, you come across as a lot more professional if all your branding looks neat and consistent. Do you find it difficult to come up with a spectacular corporate identity? In this blog we will help you further.

What is a corporate identity?

A corporate identity is the visual identity of a brand. When you look at a company brochure, web page or social post, the corporate identity quickly becomes clear. It is a translation of the personality of organization and consists of the colors, logo, typography and imagery. These are consistent across all brand communications.

Developing a corporate identity

Designing a corporate identity can be tricky. It's best to first get clear on what your brand stands for. Then, using the tips below, you can begin creating your corporate identity.

  1. Give your brand character

Like people, brands can have a certain personality. Some companies are humorous, where others capitalize more on reliability. So consider what character fits your brand. What does your brand stand for and what core values fit with it? Difficult? Then take a look at Jung' s 12 archetypes .

  1. Create a mood board

It can be difficult to envision your ideal corporate identity. Therefore, create a mood board. On this you can see at a glance if everything fits together and if it tells the story you want to tell. Have you found the perfect look? Then you can convert this moodboard into a corporate identity.

  1. Keep in mind the meaning of color

Don't haphazardly select colors, but consider associations. For example, blue exudes tranquility and confidence. Ideal for a funeral home or government agency, but a restaurant might be better off choosing a shade of yellow because this color whets the appetite.

  1. Create unity in all appearances

Consistency is very important for a successful corporate identity. The colors and typography should match each other, as well as the graphic shapes and logo. For example, if you have a lot of clean lines and pointy shapes, then a bubble font is often not the right match.

  1. Stay authentic

You can put together a beautiful corporate identity with all the trimmings, but if the appearance does not match the identity of the brand, it is of no use. It can even backfire, because if the customer feels that you are not sincere, they quickly lose interest. Therefore, make sure your corporate identity flawlessly translates your company's vision and identity.

  1. Test your corporate identity with your target audience

Of course you design a corporate identity that you like, and that suits your brand, but don't forget your target audience. These are the people you are addressing with your brand communication. If your brand is primarily aimed at children, a vibrant corporate identity with bright colors is more appropriate than if you want to attract the attention of an older generation.

Sure your corporate identity is appropriate? Then test it with your target audience.
