Instagram Threads in Europe

What is Threads?

In early July, Meta launched a new platform: Instagram Threads. Now that it's also available in Europe, it's time to take a closer look at this platform. In this blog you can read all about Threads and where the opportunities lie for businesses.

Threads is Meta's latest platform and is linked to Instagram. First launched in the United States, the platform has been available in Europe since Dec. 15.

Threads puts the focus on text, differing from Instagram where images are more important. On Threads, users can post a short message in 500 words about their day, share an opinion or respond to another thread. A photo or video can also be added. In addition to typing threads, you can also post voice threads. These are, as the name suggests, voice messages.

An advantage of Threads is that you can add links to your threads, this is not possible on Instagram. Therefore, Threads is also very interesting for companies, since references to the link in bio are no longer necessary. Potential customers therefore have to perform fewer actions to get to the webshop or other linked content.

Threads versus X

Short text posts, we've seen that before. The platform X has had this setup for years, but it is no secret that X is not doing so well, so it is very smart of Meta to create a similar platform and let it ride on the success of Instagram.

The fact that Threads is so closely linked to Instagram is immediately noticeable. In fact, you can very easily create an account based on your existing Instagram account. There is also the option to immediately follow everyone on Threads that you also follow on Instagram.

Still, there are some differences from X. X became known primarily because it was a good way to follow breaking news. Threads' ambition is not to become a news platform; it is more focused on social interaction.

In addition, soon you will not necessarily need an account on Threads to use the platform, but will also be possible with an account on Mastodon, for example. This is due to European legislation.
